NEST Fragrances, founded by Laura Slatkin, just launched its new Fine Fragrance Collection. The three floral fragrances, Amazon Lily, Midnight Fleur, and Passiflora, were inspired by the botanical artworks of Mary Granville Pendarves Delany, an 18th century artist and poet.

The Eau de Parfum sprays are in square bottles. There are also roller ball purse sprays, and jars that contain scented body cream. The packaging is all back, adorned with a colorful burst of realistic floral imagery.

Slatkin said she was moved by the remarkable beauty of Mrs. Delaney’s botanicals, which she translated to the packaging. “There is an elusive, sensual quality to them that resonated with me. Her botanicals are beautiful works of art and they were the inspiration for me to create the NEST Fine Fragrances Collection.”

Slatkin began the package design process by selecting botanicals that would beget unique and complex fragrances. It took one year to identify concepts that could be translated into artwork that would communicate and complement each fragrance.

She worked with Russian-born artist Alexander “Sasha” Solodukho to bring her concepts to life. Under Slatkin’s direction, Sasha sketched the concepts first in watercolor, tweaking them many times over until they were perfect, before painting the final versions “It was very important to me that the botanicals were perfectly beautiful…the way I had envisioned them on my dressing table. I had to bring that vision to fruition!,” said Slatkin.
